Nahid Islam said this at a road meeting organized in front of the Narsingdi town municipality on Wednesday afternoon.

Today is the last day of the NCP’s ‘July march to build the country’ to mark the anniversary of the July mass uprising. On July 1, the NCP started the month-long march by visiting the grave of martyr Abu Sayeed in the anti-discrimination student movement in Babanpur Jafarpara village of Pirganj, Rangpur. At the road meeting in Narsingdi, NCP convener Nahid Islam said, “We have seen various conspiracies in the country in the last one year. We have not received a new constitution, we have not been allowed to remove the fascist president, we have not been given a declaration. We have not backed down from any demand. In the post-uprising period, we have to take to the streets demanding a Bangladesh free from terrorism and extortion.’

Nahid Islam, mentioning that the 24th movement demanding the liberation of the people of the country had turned into a mass uprising, said, ‘After traveling all over the country for the past month, today we have come to you in Narsingdi, the city of revolution. None of us has forgotten the memory of the revolution.’ He said, ‘We remember July 18. We have not forgotten what happened in Narsingdi that day. When all our universities were closed on July 17, we declared a “complete shutdown”. Then Narsingdi student Tahmid was martyred. Another student Emon was martyred that day.’

At that time, Nahid Islam said that a total of 22 people were martyred in Narsingdi district in the July mass uprising. He remembered them with respect.

The NCP convener said, “We want to work for Narsingdi, we want to develop this district as an industrialized district. There are terrorists and extortionists in Narsingdi. We want to expel them. All of you should strengthen the hands of the NCP in Narsingdi, God willing, our victory will come. The way the July march was successful across the country, God willing, the National Citizen Party will be victorious in the next parliament, in the next Bangladesh.” The NCP convener also said, “You know, there are two student advisors in the interim government. Various conspiracies are going on in politics about them. Both of them are not from our National Citizen Party. They are representatives of the mass uprising. Conspiracies against them must be stopped to strengthen the mass uprising.” NCP Chief Coordinator Nasiruddin Patwari said at the rally, “The consensus commission has been formed, but Punjab is pulling it from behind. There is still time, listen to the government, be with the martyrs. If not, then I don’t know what will happen in the future. We want a new constitution in this country, we will make a new constitution.’

NCP Senior Joint Convener Samantha Sharmin demanded that we find out which government force and which official had what role during the 24th mass uprising. She said, ‘We saw with our own eyes that many army officials opened fire. On whose orders they opened fire, we want to know.’

Northern zone organizer Shirin Akhter, joint coordinator Abdullah Al Faisal, Narsingdi chief coordinator Awlad Hossain and others also spoke at the rally hosted by NCP’s northern zone chief organizer Sarjis Alam.

Earlier, at around 5 pm, NCP leaders, workers and supporters started their march from the Jailkhana intersection in Narsingdi town and reached the rally site in front of the municipality by visiting various roads. Before the march began, NCP convener Nahid Islam exchanged views with the family members of the martyrs of the mass uprising in the district at the Narsingdi Club.

The police had made extensive security arrangements around these programs. Police members were seen taking positions at intersections and meeting places in the city. A law enforcement source said that more than 900 police members were on the ground.

Incidentally, on July 16, leaders and activists of the Awami League (currently banned) and its affiliates attacked the NCP march program in Gopalganj. Later, five people were killed in a clash between leaders and activists and law enforcement. More than fifty people were injured.

In addition, on July 19, BNP and Chhatra Dal leaders and activists demolished the NCP road meeting stage in Chakaria, Cox’s Bazar. The stage was set up on a truck.
